The "Lion of Judah" is an ancient historical and cultural symbol of special significance in Judaism, first mentioned in the Book of Genesis, when the patriarch Jacob blessed his son Judah, that he should be "strong as a lion". The lion has therefore come to symbolize the Tribe of Judah and, indeed, the entire people of Israel. King David stemmed from the Tribe of Judah and this is an additional reason for which the Tribe of Judah has come to be recognized as the backbone of Jewish history, representing power, leadership and courage.
The walls of the Old City of Jerusalem represent the resilience and unwavering spirit of Jerusalem - the historical capital of the Tribe of Judah and entire people of Israel.
